One year ago, I was working on a “little fairy story” that felt like something special. It stayed with me in my head every day and everywhere I went. I didn’t know it would become anything but a “little fairy story.” One day, while scrolling social media, I stumbled upon a beautiful picture and gasped.
I gasped not only because of its beauty and magic but also because of this: “My goodness!” I thought, “This looks just like the ‘little fairy story’ in my head. So, I purchased this artist’s book, And the Light Comes In…
And then I purchased her scripture cards…
…so I could have more of her art, as many pictures as possible as quickly as possible. I couldn’t get this art out of my head; it lived there, neighbor to my “little fairy story.”
And then one day, this beautiful artist messaged me on social media thanking me for sharing her art. “It speaks to my soul. Feels like home,” I said. And then for some reason, I shared with this person I didn’t even know these vulnerable words: “I’m working on a story right now and stumbled upon your art…and stopped in my tracks because it looked exactly like where my story is living in my head. So neat how our Father knits His people together like that.” She answered back, “How wonderful!! …I do so love getting to know other people who love the Lord and who are creating art and stories that reflect His goodness!” Then she blessed my “little fairy story” and encouraged me to keep working.
And I did.
At my first publisher’s meeting for my “little fairy story” my publisher, Samantha, asked me, “Who would you like to illustrate your book?” I was surprised that she wanted my opinion; I thought I would have none. But, sheepishly I mentioned the beautiful artist from before, knowing full well it’d be next to impossible. What were the odds of that? Probably slim to none. If it did happen, it would mean God intervened.
And He did.
Amy Grimes is illustrating my “little fairy story.” God be glorified!
